Privacy Policy

Effective 9 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-09

This policy explains what information the PeakTracker app for iPhone and Android (the “App”) and this website collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. PeakTracker is published by Sports Coaching AI (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for your data. Questions: hello@sportscoaching.ai.

The short version. PeakTracker uses your location to track ski days. Detailed tracking data stays on your phone; if you sign in, we store your daily and per-run statistics in the cloud so they survive a new phone and power the social features. Things you share socially (your display name, leaderboard entries, snow reports, group sessions) are visible to other PeakTracker users. We don't show ads and we don't sell your data. You can delete your account and data at any time, in the App or at /delete-account.

1. What we collect

Location (while you track)

When you start a tracking session, the App reads your device's precise GPS location (latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, heading and accuracy) about once per second. Tracking keeps running when the screen is locked or the App is in the background, so a whole ski day is recorded: on iPhone this uses background location access, and on Android a foreground service with a persistent notification. Tracking stops when you end the session. The App does not collect location when you are not tracking, except to show your position on a map or to list nearby resorts while you are using those screens. Resort search and resort detection use a list of ski areas built into the App, so your location stays on your device (see “Third-party map, resort and weather services” below for what is sent where).

The raw GPS trail is stored only on your device. It is used to detect runs and lifts and to calculate your statistics.

Diagnostics (off by default). If you turn on Settings → Diagnostics → Record raw GPS, the App also keeps every location reading exactly as your phone reported it, with barometer readings, so we can test tracking accuracy. These recordings stay on your device (the last 10 sessions, at most 30 days) and are never uploaded by the App. They leave your phone only if you export them yourself with the share sheet, to whoever you choose. Turning the setting off stops recording; "Delete raw GPS recordings" or deleting your data on this device removes them.

Motion and altitude sensors

The App reads the barometer (air pressure) to measure altitude changes more accurately than GPS alone. Sensor readings are processed on your device and are not uploaded; only the resulting statistics (for example vertical metres) are stored.

Health data

The App does not access Apple Health, Google Health Connect or any other health data. Calorie figures are estimated on your device from your speed and time on snow.

Photos (optional)

If you attach photos to a session, the App accesses your camera or photo library with your permission and keeps a copy in the App's private storage on your device. Photos are not uploaded to our servers.

Account information (if you sign in)

You can use the App's tracking without an account. To sync and use social features you sign in with Google or Apple. Through Firebase Authentication we receive a unique user ID, your email address, your name and your profile photo URL (Apple may give us a private relay email and lets you hide your name). We create a profile with your display name, profile photo URL, a random friend code, your leaderboard preference, and the date and version of the Terms you accepted.

Synced activity statistics (if you sign in)

When you're signed in, the App backs up to our cloud database (Google Cloud Firestore):

This is a summary of each run, not your GPS trail.

Support requests and reports

If you contact support (in the App or on this website) we store your message, category and the email address you give us. From the App we also attach the app version, build number, platform, OS version, device model and, if you choose to include them, recent diagnostic logs from the App (these can include timestamps of tracking events and error messages, but not your GPS trail). If you report content or another user, we store the report, your user ID, the reported item and your reason.

Analytics and diagnostics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used: events such as starting and stopping tracking (with duration), creating or joining a group session, and which screens are opened, together with device and app information and an app-instance identifier generated by Firebase. We use crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics) to receive crash reports with a stack trace, device model, OS version and, if you are signed in, your account ID. You can turn crash reporting off in the App under Settings → Privacy → Share crash reports. We don't use this information for advertising and we don't link it to third-party advertising data.

Third-party map, resort and weather services

These services receive the information below directly from your device, along with your IP address, as with any internet request. We don't send them your name, email or account ID.

What we don't collect

We don't collect your contacts, messages, microphone, or advertising data. We don't show ads, don't sell or rent personal information, and don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

2. How we use it

If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (providing the App and its features), your consent (location, camera and photo permissions, which you can withdraw in your device settings), and our legitimate interests in securing, moderating and improving the App.

4. Service providers

We use these providers to run PeakTracker. They process data on our behalf or as described:

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of users or the public, or to enforce our Terms. If PeakTracker is transferred to a new owner, this policy will continue to apply to your data.

5. Retention and deletion

6. Your choices and rights

7. Children

PeakTracker is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age for digital consent where you live, such as 16 in some EU countries), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by Google Cloud. Access to synced data is restricted by Firestore security rules so each user can only change their own data, and only a small number of administrators can access support and moderation tools. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we'll notify you as required by law.

9. Changes

We'll post any changes here and update the version and date at the top. If a change is significant we'll tell you in the App before it takes effect.
